Witness Ministry Coordinators (80063-LC-¶252)
We respectfully petition the 2008 General Conference to amend ¶ 252.2c and .5 of The Book of Discipline as indicated:
¶ 252.2c The witness ministries of the church shall give attention to developing and strengthening evangelistic efforts of sharing of personal and congregational stories of Christian experience, faith, and service; communications; Lay Speaking Ministries; and other means that give expressions of witness for Jesus Christ. Every board, standing committee, commission, council, and work area of the church shall designate one of its members to work with the coordinator of witness ministries (see ¶¶ 244, 252.5c) as its coordinator of witness ministries. These persons shall help the groups of which they are members to engage in witness ministries and, in particular, to ask, “How are we intentionally reaching new people for Jesus Christ through our ministries?” and “How are we helping new people grow and mature as disciples of Jesus Christ through our ministries and areas of responsibility?”
¶ 252.5. Membership [of the church council] Insert a new item “c” and re-letter the section as necessary:
c) the coordinator of witness ministries;
