Associate Members and Local Pastors as Mentors (80328-SU-¶419)
Amend ¶419 as follows:
¶ 419. The district superintendent shall oversee the total ministry of the clergy and of the churches in the communities of the district in their missions of witness and service in the world: (a) by giving priority...
(e) by nominating clergy in full connection, to serve in the ministry of mentoring candidates, commissioned ministers, local pastors and other probationary members; associate members and full-time local pastors who have completed the Course of Study may be nominated to mentor local pastors presently in the Course of Study; (f) by participating with the bishops in the appointment-making process; (g) by recommending and assigning
persons such as certified lay ministers to churches who do not have appointed clergy;
To bring the paragraph into consistency with provisions created by the 2004 General Conference to allow associate members and local pastors who have completed the Course of Study to be mentors to local pastors presently in the Course of Study.
