Add a new ¶ 5 and amend ¶705.5e1as follows:
¶5 - Fair and proportionate representation within the structure and organization of the general church is a foundational principle of inclusiveness and diversity. Effort shall be made in each organizational unit of the general church, including committees, sub-committees and task groups, to promote membership of the body that will be truly representative and proportionate to the jurisdictional and central conference membership of the church. In the election of additional members consideration shall be given to bring into each unit persons with special knowledge, professional expertise or background that will aid in the work of the unit. These provisions shall extend to boards, agencies, committees, connectional table, task groups, sub-committees, and every organizational unit of the general church. Consideration shall also be given to election and appointment of members with differing Christian theological perspectives and to perfecting the representation of gender and racial and ethnic groups, taking into account membership elected by the jurisdictions and general conference.
¶ 705.5.e.l Additional members shall be elected and appointed by each
general program board organizational unit of the general church, including committees, sub-committees, task groups, boards, agencies, connectional table, in order to bring into the board unit persons with special knowledge, professional expertise or background that will aid in the work of the agency unit, to consider differing Christian theological perspectives, and to perfect the representation of racial and ethnic persons, youth (¶710.3), young adults (¶710.3), older adults, women and men, people with disabilities, and persons from small-membership churches, taking into account members elected by the jurisdictions and general conference.
