Officers of the Court (81471-JA-¶2708.1)
Amend ¶2708.1 as follows:
¶ 2708. General Organization and Pre-Trial Procedures
1. Officers of the Court-Officers shall consist of a presiding officer (see ¶¶ 2712.2, 2713.2, 2714.2), who shall appoint a secretary and such other officers as deemed necessary. The presiding officer may have legal counsel, who shall not be the conference chancellor, at the expense of the annual conference holding the trial, for the sole purpose of advice to the presiding officer during the trial. The defendant shall also be entitled to have legal counsel at the expense of the annual conference holding the trial for the sole purpose of advice to the defense.
If the Conference can bear the cost of having legal counsel, the same Conference should have funds to help the defense. This is the only moral and ethical way to proceed in such matters.
