Amend ¶101 as follows: Distinctive Wesleyan Emphases
¶101 OUR DOCTRINAL HERITAGE
Justification and Assurance – We believe God reaches out to the repentant believer who is convinced of and turns from sin in justifying grace with accepting and pardoning love. Wesleyan theology stresses that a decisive change in the human heart can and does occur under the prompting of grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ proclaimed, ‘Repent, and believe in the Gospel’. Christian consensus has longed affirmed ‘an impenitent sinner cannot be a pardoned sinner’. John Wesley stated, ‘Our main doctrines...are three - that of Repentance, of Faith, and of Holiness.’ Defining repentance clarifies recent denominational confusion.
