Chargeable Offenses (81318-JA-¶2702.1)

Amend ¶ 2702.1 as follows:
2702. 1.  A bishop...
(a) immorality including but not limited to, not being celibate in singleness or not faithful in a heterosexual marriage or homosexual union;  (b)  practices declared by The United Methodist Church to be incompatible with Christian teachings and therefore debilitating to the Nurturing Community (¶ 161) and contrary to the Social Principles (¶ 160-166), including but not limited to: being a self-avowed practicing homosexual; or conducting ceremonies which celebrate homosexual unions, or performing same-sex wedding ceremonies ; (c) crime...

Rationale

The Discipline states that all credible theological claims must provide “practical significance” (¶ 104, Sec. 4).  Therefore any assertion to “[incompatibility] with Christian teachings” ought to provide practically significant reasons that warrant such a claim.  Without such provisions, homosexual lifestyles and homosexual unions as chargeable offences ought to be stricken.
