Missionaries (81249-GM-R9999)

Add new resolution:
Affirming the Importance of Christ’s Sacrifice
WHEREAS, sin and alienation from God are universal for all of humanity; and
WHEREAS, all people need salvation uniquely offered through our Lord Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, our Lord’s sacrificed Himself for all people and is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to life; and
WHEREAS, the apostle Paul wrote that if justification simply came through moral obedience to religious law, “then Christ died for nothing” (Galatians 2:21); and
WHEREAS, Jesus Christ Himself clearly declared, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes through the father except through me.” (John 14:6); and
WHEREAS, the apostle Peter declared about Jesus, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12);
WHEREAS, the apostle Paul wrote:  “And how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach unless they be sent?” (Romans 10: 14-15); and
WHEREAS, the need for the body of Christ to implement the Great Commission (Matthew 18:19-20) is no less urgent today then it was in the first century; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of millions of people throughout the world today have not heard the Gospel;
Be it therefore resolved, that the 2008 General Conference urgently calls upon every United Methodist congregation actively  to recruit, send, and support missionaries throughout the world to “make disciples of all nations” and plant and build new churches; and
Be it further resolved, that we call for special attention to be given to those regions where most people have not yet heard the Good News.
