Study Group on Tithing to General Church (81199-FA-NonDis-!)
The 2008 General Conference directs the GCFA to establish a study group which will report back to the 2012 General Conference. This study group will suggest a way to provide for General Church apportionments based upon a tithe of the income to the local churches.
Included in this study will be the feasibility of having all clergy and lay members tithe (10%) of their income to the local church, and that each local church tithe (10%) of its income to the Annual Conference, and that each Annual Conference tithe (10%) of its income to the General Church. This study group will also look at whether a new paragraph 806.1 should be added to the Discipline, which would state:
“The budget of expenses for all the general funds of the Church will total 1% of the grand total of local church income as determined by Table 3, Section 1, as calculated by the most recent Tables received by GCFA and adjusted forward using the Consumer Price Index. The General Church support assessed to an Annual Conference will thereby equate to a tithe of 1% of local church income, and if that is tithed to the Annual Conference it would be a tithe of 10% of Annual Conference income as so determined. “
