Integrity of Membership (81186-FO-R9999)

Add new resolution:
Resolution on the Integrity of Membership in comparison to the Constitution of the United Methodist Church
WHEREAS, The United Methodist Church is a community of believers under the Lordship of Christ.  It is the redeemed and redeeming fellowship in which the Word of God is preached by persons divinely called and the sacraments are duly administered according to Christ’s own appointment;                                                                                                                   WHEREAS, the prayers and intentions of the leaders of the United Methodist Church and its predecessors, The Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church, have been and are for obedience to the will of God as revealed in the Holy Scriptures and expounded in the Constitution adopted on November 11, 1966 by the General Conferences of The Evangelical United Brethren Church and The Methodist Church and thereafter by the requisite vote in the annual conferences of the two churches;                                                                                                                                                    WHEREAS, over the years members of the denomination, including Bishops, Clergy, Laity, and persons in leadership at all levels of the denomination have not held with respect the Biblical intentions of the constitution;                                                                                                                                    WHEREAS, persons have put forward such thoughts as: The God of the scriptures is not the only god to believe in; That belief in Jesus of the scriptures is not the only way to heaven; That there was no virgin birth, death and resurrection of Jesus for payment for sins of fallen humans; and many other deviations from the constitutional standards set forth in the constitution;
WHEREAS, John Wesley said “the World is my parish”, therefore the church of Jesus Christ as represented through the members of the United Methodist Church exists in and for the world, and its very dividedness is a hindrance to its mission in that world;                                                                     THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that all persons who claim the privilege of being a member of the United Methodist Church commit themselves to supporting the constitution of the United Methodist Church and its standards set forth.
