Immigration Laws (81163-C1-R9999)
Add new resolution:
Christian Duty to Government Authorities
The United Methodist Church does not condone the intentional breaking of immigration laws. The Christian’s obligation to submit to government authorities (Matthew 22:15-21, Mark 12:13-17, Luke 20:20-25, Romans 13:1-7, 1 Peter 2:13-14) applies to immigration laws, even while one may be engaged in appropriate means to seek the change of such laws. We encourage our ministers to find relevant opportunities to teach this important principle.
This would help make our Church’s witness on immigration more complete. Biblical integrity demands that this Scriptural principle be an important part of our Church’s witness on immigration. Other important principles for immigration are addressed in previously adopted statements as well as other legislation before this General Conference.
