Late-Term Abortions (81153-C2-¶161.J)
Amend ¶161.J as follows:
The beginning of life...We oppose the use of late-term abortion known as dilation and extraction (partial-birth abortion) and call for the end of this practice except when the physical life of the mother is in danger and no other medical procedure is available, or in the case of severe fetal anomalies incompatible with life. Whenever the unborn child may be capable of surviving outside of his or her mother’s womb, every reasonable effort should be made to preserve both lives. We call all Christians to a searching and prayerful inquiry...
While it is important to address the specific matter of partial-birth abortion, we should also more broadly address other cases of late-term abortion. We should clearly make known that our Church at least desires the preservation of the lives of such relatively well-developed, vulnerable members of the human family.
