Unanimity in Certain Areas (81146-GA-¶717)

   Amend ¶ 717:
   ¶ 717. Record Maintenance—Each general agency...or the denomination as a whole (¶ 509.1). However, agencies, their officers, and staff may only take positions on:
   1) Scouting and military policy issues with the concurrence of the General Commission on United Methodist Men;
   2) Racial issues with the concurrence of the General Commission on Religion and Race; and
   3) Issues affecting the central conferences with the concurrence of the General Commission of Central Conference Affairs.

Rationale

The principle is unanimity. The UN Security Council and African villages rely on it for wise, uncontested decisions. In contrast, United Methodist Men and another agency once clashed before the U.S. Supreme Court over Scouting policies. Many UM Men, as veterans, have expertise to strengthen military policy pronouncements.
