Human Sexuality (81075-C2-¶161.G)

Amend    161.G as follows:
We insist that all persons, regardless of age, gender, marital status, or sexual orientation, are entitled to have their human and civil rights ensured. Homosexual persons no less than heterosexual persons are individuals of sacred worth.  All persons need the ministry and guidance of the church in their struggles for human fulfillments as well as the spiritual and emotional care of a fellowship that enables reconciling relationship with God, with others, and with self.  The United Methodist Church does not condone the practice of homosexuality and considers this practice incompatible with Christian teaching  but not necessarily incompatible with that of the teaching of Jesus Christ.  We affirm that God’s grace is available to all, and we will seek to live together in Christian community.  We implore families and churches not to condemn lesbian and gay members and friends. We commit ourselves to be in ministry for and with all persons.

“Christian teaching” in the existing  ¶161.G is our human-stated definition, not necessarily what Jesus taught, e.g., “I only know what I read in the books I write.”  Jesus would not approve of the nonsensical, misleading, and self-serving statement in the existing  ¶ 161.G – this revision is to illuminate that!
