Pastoral Responsibility (81036-LC-¶217)
Add the following paragraph as a part of ¶217, after ¶217.7:
The appointed pastor shall have the authority to counsel with those wishing to become a part of the membership of the United Methodist Church to determine their understanding of the vows and their readiness to live in accordance thereto. Additionally, the pastor shall have the authority to recommend further study and preparation and to determine the readiness of persons to make the solemn vows of membership.
Membership in the United Methodist Church is a commitment worthy of serious discussion, deliberation, preparation, and prayer.
